What are you listening to

Hey
I have been doing sports for a long time and the music in my headphones plays a huge role .... but I am an absolute music lover from pop to rock!)

I particularly like the piece that starts @ approx 6 minutes 50 secs into the album.

For a work as seemingly Spanish as Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, it initially seems bizarre that many people’s first encounter with it is forever linked to the fictional Yorkshire town of Grimley.

But the concerto’s use in the 1996 film Brassed Off! ensured that the love for this ever popular work became even more widespread. The miners affectionately referred to it as ‘Orange Juice’, after finding it rather challenging to pronounce ‘Aranjuez’.

Joaquín Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez

I remember the piece featuring in some spaghetti western, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, maybe.

Brassed Off was based on the actual struggles of Grimethorpe, a pit village which is about 20 miles away from where I live.

The Colliery (Pit) at Grimethorpe had a number of Fax machines, that I used to get called out to fix on a pretty regular basis (coal dust and fax machines is a bad combination). If I recall right, it closed sometime around 1993.
