[SOLVED] Win 10 21H2 not updating to 22H2 (error 0x8007001f)

Please reboot the system and attempt to update, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs and a copy of the Setupapi.dev.log file.

Can't do it now (working on the machine), you will have an answer tonight/tomorrow morning.

Thank you again.

Alf

Please take your time, I will see the logs here when you're ready.... (y)

Hi,

Please provide a new copy of following logfiles.

C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\Setuperr.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\Setupact.log

Please try to install build 22H2 using the ISO file.

  • Go to this Microsoft page and under the title Create Windows 10 installation media press on Download tool now.
  • Save the tool on your Desktop and double click to run it.
  • On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.
  • On the What do you want to do page, select Create installation media (USB....) and then select Next.
  • Choose the ISO file option. Once the download is complete, right click the ISO and select the option Mount.
  • Open the Windows File Explorer and open mounted ISO, and run the setup.exe file.
  • In the initial screen, click “Change how Setup downloads updates”, and select “Not at the moment
  • Follow the instructions and click on the option Change what to keep.
  • Select the option Keep personal files and apps and click next.
  • Windows Setup will now start the in-place upgrade.

It seems that the iso won't mount..... it goes to timeout:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Mount-DiskImage -ImagePath D:\Downloads\Windows.iso
Mount-DiskImage : Periodo di timeout del semaforo scaduto.
In riga:1 car:1

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32>

That's wierd.

Hmm strange, do you get the same message when you right click on the ISO and select Mount?
If so please recreate the ISO file or download the latest version using FIDO.ps1

Hmm strange, do you get the same message when you right click on the ISO and select Mount?

no, it just start "circling" until I close the explorer window. That's why I went to powershell - to have a minimum feedback
However re-building the iso doesn't work and also explorer gives some error message: "impossible to mount the file"

Also with fido the mount doesn't work.but....

This is something I should Have said before, sorry for that: at a certain point in history my pc stopped to do pnp: I have to go to devman every time I plug in a new device and "search" the drivers from the the HD (C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository).

In this case when I start the mount I see a virtual dvd in devman, I installed the drivers by hand and now I can mount it.

Hmmm, that's odd. What you could try is try to create an USB-stick with the ISO and then boot the system from the USB-stick and try the upgrade tot 22H2.

well, that was not necessary: it is now installing from the iso image.

You're welcome. This looks good, are there any remaing issues e.g. with external devices and drivers?

And thanks for your donation to Sysnative... (y)

Actually, everything seems ok 🤞. I am going trough alla the remaining updates (KB5030211 is installing just now), and also the pnp now (seems to) work.

Next step should be Win11, but I have no bitlocker on the machine. And actually I don't want to go trough bad workarounds....

Thank you again!

Alfonso

Before upgrading to Windows 11 I would suggest to create a full system image first, so you can always easily revert to Windows 10.

So far as I know BitLocker is not a requirement to upgrade to Windows 11. But you can always run this tool to check if your system is ready for Windows 11.
I'am still using Windows 10, and Windows 11 only in virtual environments.

well... TPM is not there for sure. secure boot is just disabled, need to check for UEFI (probably disabled for some forgotten reasons)
