Win 7 64b error 0x80070490

That is correct the default Windows configuration for the Windows Modules Installer service is Manual, don't change that.

Export the CBS folder
  1. Click the Start button
    Win7Orb.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please, if the file is too big please upload the file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi,

Those errors are normal.

Please run: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Scanhealth from a Command Prompt running as Administrator

Let me know if the result is "The operation completed successfully." or equivalent and collect the CBS.log after the command finished.

Hello,
after running DISM
results in Checksur.log are:

=================================

that's great but the problem for what I started this thread still remains - some applications are not working properly, namely all troubleshooters. The error I'm getting is typically 0x80070490 and "script stopped working". What do you think I should try/focus on?
Thank you.

Hi,

Please repeat the Dism command from post #23 and collect the CBS.log not the Checksur.log

Thanks for the log.

If you run sfc /scannow it continues to report corrupted files that couldn't fix?

Hi,
yes, it still says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" New CBS.log attached. Its crazy! :-)
Thanks for your ongoing support.

Its strange because only the first log provided by you did have information about corrupted files that we fixed all the remaining logs don't include nothing about corrupted files!

Did you restart the computer?

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
  • Download FRST or FRST x64 and save it to the Desktop.
(Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you don't know which version matches your system, try FRST if it say that is not compatible with your OS you have to use FRST64)
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.gif
and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
(When the Tool opens for the first time you must click Yes on the disclaimer.)
    FRST.png
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • The first time the Tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt).
  • Please attach both logs to your post.

Hi,
Thanks. I did restart the computer and sfc /scannow gives still the "corrupt files" message.
See the logs from FRST64 attached.

Hi,

I have two questions:
- is this computer from a Company ad is connected to a Domain?
- do you have a external HDD connected or the machine have more than one Hard Drive and you have a second Windows instalation on that disk?

Hi,
It was a company computer connected to a domain and was given to me when my contract ended. I cannot log in to the company account because "windows logon services are not running". I can login locally with admin rights.
I had second HDD with windows on it but currently is inactive (in Bios)
I also have USB flash drive 120GB with data on it

Hi,

Thanks for the extra information.

From the log:
usul (S-1-5-21-1612071007-2496262000-3852455472-1004 - Administrator - Enabled) => C:\Users\usul.USPC-CM047

When the user profile is named like that <user>.<machine_name> its usually an indication of corruptions the user profile! do you remember that? sometimes windows enters with a temporarily user profile.

Do you recognize this software "fastviewer Remoted Service 3.2" its hidden on the list of installed programs!

(It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work!)
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.gif
and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
    FRST_Fix.png
  • Press the Fix button just once and Wait. After the fix the system needs to restart if the tool does not request it please Restart the computer.
  • The tool will make a log (Fixlog.txt) on the same location as FRST/FRST64 please post it in your next reply.

Hello SleepyDude,
Thanks again. The domain usul profile might have been corrupted - hdd was failing and got cloned on a new one - that's also the reason I had those missing files you helped to replace. The profile usul.USPC-CM047 is my local profile which was made by my IT admin after the disk replacement but before you did all your work. I don't recognize the "fastviewer Remoted Service 3.2" software but our IT had lots of software installed for remote control. In any case we can probably remove it (if possible). Fixlog.txt attached, system rebooted.

I think I found the problem, lets see...

- open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
- execute the following steps:
  • Type the following commands, and press Enter after each command:
    net stop cryptsvc
    md %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old
    xcopy %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old /e /s
  • Delete all contents of the catroot2 folder, but do not delete the catroot2 folder.
    del %systemroot%\system32\catroot2\*.*
  • Type the following command, and then press Enter:
    net start cryptsvc
  • Wait for the command to complete and then Exit the Command Prompt window
  • Reboot the computer

- After restart run the Fix script again using FRST and post the Fixlog.txt

I have to say you are really committed! Computer booted, fixlog.txt attached. Maybe also worth to note Windows want to install 4 following updates:
48685
Should I perform it or wait?

Thank You.

Don't install the updates for now.

Please run a new FRST scan like you did for post #29 and post the new logs.
