Win 8.1 won't start : windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe - missing or contains errors

Great.
Follow the instructions below to run a new scan with the DISM tool and provide a log.
  1. Right-click the Start button and click Command prompt(Administrator).
  2. If you get a popup about UserAccountControl, allow the program to run.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

    Code:
    dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Wait for this to finish before you continue

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\dism\dism.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\dism.txt"
  4. This will create a file, dism.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Start the Windows Explorer and open the folder C:\Users\Admin\Desktop.
Provide a screenshot.

Attached.

Something else i've noticed, my Adobe 64x programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) won't run, but all the 32x versions will.

The filenames are not shown here too. Right-click the column name "Date modified" or "Size". Are you able to put a checkmark at "Name" or another column name ?
If not, try to reset the folder view settings to the default settings for all folders.

I can add the 'Name' column to folders but it doesn't alter the desktop. Equally the 'Name' column addition only ever adds it to the folder i'm in, each folder i have not manually added it to, doesn't use the name column.

I went into a folder > options > Folder Options > (Clicked) Reset Folders. No change.

Restart the computer to see if that helps.

I went into a folder > options > Folder Options > (Clicked) Reset Folders. No change.
Open the folder C:\Users\Admin.
Click Options
Select the tab View
Click the button Reset Folders, then the button Apply to Folders.
If above doesn't help, after a restart, click the button Restore Defaults also.

Tried both, no change.

Something i maybe should of noted. Some of the folders do show names, Control Panel (and all the folders within Control Panel), equally when I view 'Local Disk', however once i go down a level within Local Disk the names are all gone again. This has been the case since you got me back onto the desktop, restoring the folder defaults hasn't changed this.

Just out of interest, i've been searching as to see why i've been getting the 'Microsoft Management Console has stopped working' error and one suggestion is that

What causes the mmc.exe Application error? It is related to corrupted system files or issues with the hard disk. Besides, other factors like insufficient permissions and broken Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files are also responsible for the error.

I've noticed one of the errors i've been having with the AMD software installing seems to be when it gets to the C++ installation, it seems to be around then that it hangs before crashing/failing. Would it be advised to uninstall, re-install C++? If so, exactly how might i go about it as it's not like Java that can just be downloaded i don't think.

There are about 20 "Microsoft Visual C++ <year> Redistributable" programs installed on your system. We don't know which one might be causing the issue, if that is the case at all.

The 6 most recent C++ installations allowed a 'repair' option from within 'Programs & Features', which ran and looks like it re-added reg-key's for all 6, the remaining installations (which date back to 2014 and earlier) only allow an uninstall option and in-fact i think 3 of them instantly popped up (when i clicked on them) as having already been deleted and then disappeared off of the list entirely. However, so far the inclusion of the reg-keys don't seem to have made any difference.

I'm not sure if this is related or not but when attempting to re-install iTunes i'm getting a "Warning 1946. Property 'System.AppUserMode.ID' for shortcut 'iTunes.ink' could not be set". I've looked into this error and although it claims it's a Windows 7 issue (not Windows 8), from reading about it it sounds like something related to this error could be blocking the use of names by default? Link here
iTunes finished installing, opened after it installed, iTunes then promptly crashed. I did re-open it and iTunes seems fine since then.

It's still failing to install the AMD software and i'm still getting a 'Microsoft Management Console has stopped working' when attempting to click 'Manage' while on 'This PC'.

Feels like there are a lot of really small issues that are creating these bigger problems. Does it make sense to keep pursuing these issues or should i create a restore point and attempt to upgrade it to Windows 10?

Creating a restore point is always good.
The current corruptions can be hard to tickle, if possible at all, and can also arise after the upgrade attempt. You may try to upgrade if you like.

I'm doing a System Image backup over night and i'll try and update tomorrow. Although i'm not in any rush to fix this, i'm not sure what options are left to try. If SFC and DISM are happy but problems persist is there anywhere else (within Windows) to look to resolve them? I've got plenty of Event Viewer errors for the 'crashes' but nothing to point to the main area that's causing the lack of names on the desktop or folders.

Great news. The Windows 10 upgrade finished not long ago and everything is back! The names have returned, the explorer searches are working and 'Manage' is working too. So it's looking good. I'll check through over the next couple of hours to see if anything isn't working but i'll attempt to AMD software next then i just have a few programs that require re-installing (hopefully it will pickup the profile and files that are already there) and i should be back to 100% (if not better because its now an SSD and Windows 10 over Windows 8)
