[Win10] Unable to update Win10 beyond version 10240

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

In the past, I've tried uninstalling Avira. I can try that again.

Samsung Magician is installed. It says that the firmware is the latest and RAPID Mode is off.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

I uninstalled Avira and then let the normal Windows Update try to install Windows version 1607 and also tried via the Media Creation Tool. Neither one worked.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

Sorry about that, I'd like to look at drivers again.

  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    DISM /online /get-drivers > %userprofile%\Desktop\drivers.txt

  4. This will create a text file called drivers.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this file with your reply.

Class Name : ContinuousBackup
Provider Name : Acpana Business Systems Inc.
Date : 10/20/2012
Version : 4.5.1.180

Please create a System Restore point, then follow these instructions:

To disable the File Access Manager service in Windows

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
In Registry Editor, locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FAMv4
In the details pane, right-click Start, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 4, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type net stop famv4, and then press ENTER.

After this, restart and try the Windows 10 update again.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

Hmm, in the Registry Editor, I see: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

but not FAMv4. I've attached a screen capture (registry_editor.png). Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks,
Mitchell

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

Do you have a software product listed in program and features published by Acpana Business Systems Inc.?

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

No, I don't see anything like Acpana Business Systems in Apps & Features.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

Please try uninstalling Backup4all 5 (if you do not have a subscription or current backups), then restart and run the DISM drivers command again and attach the text file with your reply.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

I uninstalled Backup4all 5, restarted the computer, and ran the DISM command. I've attached the new drivers.txt file as drivers_2.txt

Hmm.. looks like that wasn't it. I'll have to do a little more research, but it is probably a backup product of some kind.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

I'd like to see if I can find the product with a filescan.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

View attachment SFCFix.zip

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

I've run the script as you directed. I wasn't sure what you meant by adding code tags, but the file is really short. I've attached the SFCFix.txt file. Note that there's also an earlier SFCFix.txt file.

Thanks,
Mitchell

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

I did a little research on the Dell Backup and Recovery and downloaded and installed version 1.9 which is supposedly compatible with Windows 10 and should only be installed on computers that originally came with windows 7 or 8. I tried installing the latest Win 10 version but got the same error. I then uninstalled DBAR (quite the bloatware) and tried again to update Win 10 but same error.

I also reran SFCFix and here's the output:

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.

Re: Unable to update Windows 10 beyond version 10240

Just thought I'd check in and see if there's anything else to try.
