Error code: (0x80073712)

cbs.log file zipped and attached.

Many thanks again. Matt.

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

Please try doing the following.

Let's take a different approach. Please do the following.

Remove Update Manually
1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:3213986

3. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

Well, I ran the command to uninstall that update which was apparently successful. I was presented with a message asking me to restart the PC so I clicked ok.
Windows tried to restart but during the boot sequence it went into automatic recovery and tried to repair windows. This has apparently been unsuccessful because after several reboots and attempted recovery sequences the PC will not boot at all now. If I turn it off and back on again it boots straight to a blue screen error.
Unfortunately it isn't seeing any recovery points either so I can't revert back to a previous recovery point.
I asked it to boot into safe mode but this hasn't worked either.

Wishing I hadn't tried to uninstall that now :-/

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

That's not good at all. What is the Blue Screen error that comes up?

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

Hi there,

On boot I instantly get a Blue Screen that says 'Phase 1 Initialization Error'.
Then it restarts and goes through Diagnosis and attempts Automatic Repair which doesn't work. Then it presents me with the option to either Restart because 'Your PC did not start correctly' or to go to the Advanced Options.

I have tried every available advanced option including Resetting the PC, none of which work.

It seems that uninstalling that update was about as terminal as it gets.

Unless you have any ideas it looks like I am going to have to wipe the drive and start again :-/

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

I have several ideas but you have to be willing to try them. Is it worth it to you or would you rather just wipe the drive?

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

Well, I don't have the time for a compete re-install at the moment, it's going to have to wait until next week so if there is anything you think is worth trying in the meantime then let me know and I'll give it a go.

Regards, Matt.

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

OK. I've worked on over 740 threads and have only had one thread so far where the system crashed and was unrecoverable so I'm hopeful. Do you have a USB thumb drive that you could use to transfer files from a working computer to the "sick" computer?

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

haha! Challenge accepted :-)

Of course. What files do I need and how will I copy them to the sick computer given I can't boot into any form of windows?

I do have access to the command prompt via the advanced recovery options though and can remove the hard disk and put it in another computer if necessary.

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

OK, when you get to the advanced options menu, choose Command Prompt.

Once in the command prompt window, type c: and hit enter so that you are at the C:\> prompt.
Type cd windows\system32\config and hit enter
Type ren COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.BAD and hit enter
Type ren SOFTWARE SOFTWARE.BAD and hit enter.

I'll send you a PM that has a link to a COMPONENTS hive and SOFTWARE hive. Download these to your USB portable drive from a good machine. Then plug in to the sick machine and copy these files in to the C:\Windows\System32\Config directory of the "sick" computer.

Then attempt to reboot and let me know the results. If you need more step-by-step instructions please ask.

Re: [Win10Build14393 x86] updates repeatedly failing: 0x80073712

OK, please do the following.

1. Uninstall any Antivirus that you have. If it's a paid version, make sure you have any serial/registration info so you can re-install once upgraded.
2. Remove or disconnect any extra hard drives from the computer with the exception of the boot drive. This includes any removable USB drives and any accessories that are plugged in (i.e. Printers/Scanners/Cameras)
3. Create a new user on the machine and add this user to the Administrators group.
4. Sign in with this new user.
5. Perform a clean boot following the instructions at the link below.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...oot-in-windows

6. Start the Windows 10 Ugprade. When it gets to the point where you can click Next to do the install, first disable both the wireless and wired network adapters.
7. Do the Upgrade

Let me know how it goes. If you need further instructions on any of the items above please let me know.
