Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Not a problem. Please do the following so I can take another look.

1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

4. Notepad will open showing the WU info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Thanks. There are a couple things we can try. First try the following.

Download the file below and save to your desktop. It's named Fix.reg
Right-click on this file and select Merge. Allow this to merge into your registry. Let me know if it says it is successful.

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Yes Brian, it said that the values are replaced successfully. I checked windows update and the "Restart your.." message is gone. Shall I download and install the new updates?

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

These are the updates that I see now.

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Yes. Please ensure you stay in a Clean Boot until we are done working on your machine.

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Downloaded and installed updates. "Your Upgrade is Ready to install" window got displayed as soon as the installation was over. I didn't reboot yet.

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

We'll address the Windows 10 upgrade prompts after we ensure you don't get the reboot prompts anymore. Go ahead and reboot and see if at least that part is resolved. Thanks.

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Ok, thats a good idea. I rebooted the system and checked window update. "Restart your computer to install important updates" is up again.

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

OK, please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: Win7 Loop - Restart your computer to install important updates

Thanks for your patience Brian! Here is the content of SFCFix.txt file.

I'd like to give a brief of what happened with my updates before I got in touch with you. I had two operating systems on my laptop: Win7 & Win8.1. I use Win7 mostly and when I saw GWX and registered for that. But I got same upgrade offer on Win8.1 too. I thought its better to retain Win7 and upgrade Win8.1 to Win10. I successfully upgraded to Win10 from W8.1 and ignored upgrade on Win7. Now I have Win7 & Win10 on my laptop.

Because of pending Win10 upgrade, I couldn't download and install regular updates. To get rid of Win10 upgrade on Win7, I followed some instructions from web. I think I uninstalled some of the windows updates that are related to GWX and I deleted downloaded W10 form C drive using disk cleanup. Then I got into this endless rebooting loop. Hope this gives some insights into my issue.

:beerchug2:Its gone!

Rebooted the system and saw the green shield after a long time on Window Update screen. Checked for updates, there were no important updates but a few optional updates. Just to ensure that I'm not running into W10 upgrade loop, I installed all the optional updates and rebooted. Now I see "Windows is up to date". I again checked for updates and found 7 important updates. Installed all of them and rebooted. I'm safe now. It still shows that Windows is up to date.

Thanks a ton Brian!
