[SOLVED] [Win7SP1Pro x64] WU Issue

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

Hi,

You should be able to attach more than 5 files in total, although I think the max you can attach to asingle post is 5. Can you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Alternatively, please go to this page: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions, scroll down and switch Enhanced Attachment Uploading off. Then try again.

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

I was being proactive. I did not have a problem, but the last Attachment was the 5th for the issue I am chasing.
Thanks for the pointer.
I re-ran CheckSur and the log is attached at #21. As a result of the running I ended up with Links to the majority of applications on my desktop.

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

I will have several fixes for you. They are fairly large so I am going to send one at a time and confirm it was successful. Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

Questions: I have already attached 4 files. How do I clean them up as Attached only allows 5?View attachment 26395

I believe the actual number of attachments allowed per post is 8. I set the forum up back in 2012 to only show 5 attachment boxes. So after you upload 5 in one shot, you should be allowed to upload another 3 for any single post.

The number of attachments allowed per thread =(your number of posts * 8). There is no maximum.

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

Sorry for the delay. Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

After #28 I registered with sendspace. I think I now have my copy of components.zip at
/file/q2hult

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

Were you able to see the Components?

Please do the following again. Ensure you let it run to completion.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

I was looking at the CHECKSUR text and noticed it referenced AVAST. I removed AVAST. I certainly do not want it put back.
Exactly what is CHECKSUR doing?
Thanks

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

Unfortunately I feel there are too many errors to surgicaly fix. CheckSUR looks to your registry to see what it is expecting and then looks for those files and ensures they are there and correct. For whatever reason your machine is just missing too many to fix manually. Not sure what caused this. A repair install will correct this though. If you have your Windows 7 x64 With SP1 media you can do a reapair install following the instructions at the following link. No programs or data will be lost in the process but as always ensure you have a backup of anything critical in case things do go awry.

Re: [Win7Pro x64] WU Issue

Thank you for all the time and effort and education you gave me on this issue. I will try the next rollup to see if we have fixed this issue. If not then it is the security portion.
Thanks Again.
