Re: Windows 7 Ult N - x 64 - update errors

Do you have the remote server administration tools installed on this system (RSAT)?

This may appear as kb958830.

Re: Windows 7 Ult N - x 64 - update errors

I don't think so, can't find it when searching, though my system isn't loading the list of installed updates for me to check

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    dism /online /Get-Packages > %userprofile%\Desktop\packages.txt

  4. This will create a text file called packages.txt on your Desktop, please attach this file to your next post.

Re: Windows 7 Ult N - x 64 - update errors

Let's try reinstalling it.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download the update MSU for the Media Feature pack
  2. Copy the MSU file to a convenient location (such as C:\temp).
  3. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  5. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    cd C:\temp

replace C:\temp with your path if different

    expand {update name}.msu -f:* C:\temp

replace {update name} with the name of the MSU file downloaded in step 1

    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\{update name}.cab

  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?

  7. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.

If you receive any other message:
  8. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  9. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

Re: Windows 7 Ult N - x 64 - update errors

Let's try uninstalling it instead.

If the update cab is still in place, run the command

DISM.exe /Online /Remove-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\Windows6.1-KB968211-x64-RefreshPkg.cab

Re: Windows 7 Ult N - x 64 - update errors

Please try the uninstall again, then when it fails zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log with your reply.

Re: Windows 7 Ult N - x 64 - update errors

Open the control panel, choose Programs and Features.
In the left side panel, choose "Turn Windows features on or off".
Uncheck the box for "Media Features", then click OK.

Let me know the result.
