[Win7Ultimate x64] Can't install SP1. Components missing

Re: Can't update from W7 x64 Ultimate to W7 SP1. Components missing

Hi!, here it is the last CBS bro (it failed again).
Dropbox - CBS.log

1) To do an in-place upgrade do I need the SP1 media?, or the Windows WITHOUT Sp1 ? (to do a repair install). May be I'm confusing in-place upgrade with repair install.

2) Supposedly do I have to insert the SP1 DVD and proceed with the inplace upgrade installing latest updates or without installing latest updates ?

3) All my data will remain intact, right?. Same about configs ?, shouldn't I be afraid of loosing info ?

Thanks in advance and good wednesday!

I'd like to try that using Windows 7 Ulitmate with SP1 media if available, otherwise if you have unmodified (non nLite/vLite/etc.) Windows 7 Ultimate RTM media use that.

That is correct, your data and applications should be unchanged for the in-place upgrade (or repair install, same thing :) ). Be sure to choose the option without installing latest updates.

I'm back! :D. I didn't have the time to proceed with the "repair update", since I'm using the PC for work and I've read that the repair could fail. Since I work with this PC, I don't want to take the risk (it gonna take a lot of time to setup everything again if it fails. I cannot take that risk).

Now I think is the time to proceed, and I think I'm in the right place to proceed with it with the minimum danger :)

It is possible for the install to fail, but this generally will result in it rolling back to how your system is currently.
You should make a system image backup to external media (like a USB hard drive) before attempting the install.
(to use Windows Backup for this you can read here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17127/windows-back-up-restore )

1) I'll proceed with the system image backup. And I want to know of which size should the external hard drive I should acquire to save the image. This is how "My Pc" looks (C: is a SSD where I have installed windows, and D: and E: are part of same HDD partitioned in 2, where I have all my files and docs).

Should the external drive to make the backup have at least the same size than the SSD? (ie. 223 gb)

2) When I go to to the option to make a system image, I can't see C: as you can see here in the attached image (which is the disk I should backup I guess). Is that because I'm running Windows under that same disk?, should I create an image from C: through another session started in D: or E: ?

Best regards!

Right, that menu is asking which device you want to create the backup on. Neither of your partitions on the second drive appear to have enough space, you will most likely need more than 160GB of free space - if you have an external hard drive of 250GB or more this would be ideal.

Re: Can't update from W7 x64 Ultimate to W7 SP1. Components missing

Hi!, I already proceeded with the creation of the disk image, and I already downloaded the Windows Ultimate SP1 from the official Microsoft site.

But I have a problem, when I boot with the installation DVD (or pendrive, I tried with both).

These are the steps I'm going through (let me know if I'm doing something wrong), 1st I click on install now e7c7863c13f54acaa36a013da1f53fc9.png

Then I select the option that says "update" 5ab2b331185e4d1f857e5ee30f2c710a.png,

And now is where the problem is: if I boot with the DVD, this msg appears, saying that I should restart the PC and start the setup directly from Windows

But when I run the setup from Windows (not from booting), this msg appears (it says: "For updating, you must execute Windows 7 with the SP1 already installed. Close the installation, open Windows Update and, then, search for the updates for the Service Pack 1") e684ce75bd854e28acbd3ff954fce625.png

So I'm a bit confused right now. How should I proceed?, should the repair install work taking in consideration that this is a W7 SP1 media and the version I have doesn't have the SP1?

Re: Can't update from W7 x64 Ultimate to W7 SP1. Components missing

Looks like you may have to run the repair install (within Windows, not boot) with Windows 7 RTM media, which does not include SP1.
