Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any immediate errors in the CBS log, could you please provide the DISM log?

Rich (BB code):
%systemroot%\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Could you please try and remove the update manually:

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, and press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:5009543

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Thanks, could you please provide the latest CBS logs? Hopefully they might have been updated with something more useful, otherwise we'll get a ProcMon trace while attempting to remove the update and try and see why that message is getting thrown.

Thanks, could you please do the following:

Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try removing the update using WUSA just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the square icon on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer.

Thanks, there appears to be a number of subkeys missing from your CBS hive which are related to editions. The 0x800f0905 error usually means CBS_E_NO_ACTIVE_EDITION so hopefully replacing these missing subkeys will resolve the error.

I'm going to have to install a VM which is running the same build as yours and then see what should be present. It seems to be searching for all possible editions. Could you please open an elevated command prompt and then enter the following command:

Rich (BB code):
DISM /Online /Get-CurrentEdition

Please post the output in your next post.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism /online /get-currentedition

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.844

Image Version: 10.0.19044.1466

Current edition is:

Current Edition : Enterprise

The operation completed successfully.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

This computer is alive since ~2017, it was originally installed with 1703 then it went to 1809 via in-place upgrade and then to 1909 and finally to 21H2 ... all done via in-place upgrades. Should I re-run the 21H2 in place upgrade on it again?

Morning,

Small problem, o noticed that the system cannot disable 2 features, Printing-PrintToPDFServices-Features and Printing-XPSServices-Features and as a result the in-place upgrade does not run. I tried to run the dism /online /disable-features featurename /noreboot and it completes successfully but does not disable them. Also, via Windows Features\TurnOn Off I can deselect them, reboot and after that they are right there back again.

Odd that those particular features are causing issues, did you receive an error message which mentioned those were the problem?

No errors, just a hanged task and it linked to a ps script that had a feature disablement list. So I did something else, booted off the 21H2 install disk, selected from there to upgrade and that process ran without issue and now the client is at the current patch level. Unsure if it will patch correctly in the next patch wave but since it's not out yet can't test that out.

At least you've managed to update successfully now, hopefully you won't have any issues with the next update cycle.
