Windows 10 pro 64 1809 - SFC error - Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation

so the hdd checks out?

but it bugchecked due to ram. check ram before hdd.

since i am not physically there can you recommend a memory check tool that runs while windows is up? is the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool any good?

Just the SMART part, I don't know if you'd run the actual test in the tool, but I'd recommend you run Seagate's SeaTools because it's the official utility. Based on what I'm seeing the HDD has issues as well.

I would sincerely recommend a bootable utility called Memtest86: Test RAM with PassMark MemTest86

The Windows tools are not as good and plus it is recommended to test one stick at a time and alternate slots, to rule out potential RAM slot failure on the motherboard itself.

The problem is, the system is under warranty, and Dell won't recognize any diagnostics except their own. So i have to run theirs, and i just hope it shows what we're seeing.

Ok thanks again. I'm going to shut it down and call it a night. Adjourned until Monday morning. Thank you so much for your help.

On the last Memtest86 pass now, no errors so far.

Next up is Seatools on the hard drive.

I did run another chkdsk friday night, and it found still more errors. Assuming that Seatools passes the drive, then I should keep running chkdsk until it comes up clean, and then deal with the damage?

If seatools fails the drive, I got a WD Black 1tb to put in...

Seatools basic tests, drive passes smart, fails the basic short test.

What's the best way to get the data off?

You can try using a live Linux disc and just copy and paste. But if the data is super important or if that fails, you may want to contact a professional data recovery centre, which does come with a price...

Dell will send a replacement drive. Please keep this open until it arrives tomorrow. I sent you a pvt msg.

Thank you for your help.
