[SOLVED] Windows 10 registry broken, can't boot up or use DISM to repair

Yes, the BBI hive file is corrupted too, I've never seen that file became corrupted? But I have attached a repaired copy to replace into X:\Windows\System32\Config\.

Have you recently experienced a power outage / system crash?

Didn't seem to work, thanks though.

Yes, before it stopped working I enabled something called 'Simple Classic Theme' which brings back classic theme in Windows 10 and I got a UAC notification that seemed to freeze Windows. The UAC notification wasn't clickable and was just a grey box, so I restarted from pressing the button.

Perhaps I should've mentioned that, but I've never had a problem like this with it and I don't see how it could still be causing problems. Unless it's bugged out and still enables itself somehow before getting past the login screen (which I can't even get to)? I tried deleting it a few times but it didn't help, maybe it modifies regedit and I need to find out how to undo the modifications.

Hi,

That's the risk of using such tools, and it seems it's no longer in developement too..

Simple Classic Theme is no longer actively being developed. This website will remain archived indefinitely to ensure installed systems do not break. For more information, see this post on WinClassic.

Please run FRST from the recovery environment (command prompt).

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link
Save FRST on a USB-stick.
  • In the command prompt window that will open, called command prompt, type notepad and press on Enter.
  • Notepad will open. Click on the File menu and select Open.
  • Click on Computer, find the letter for your USB Stick, then close the window and Notepad.
  • In the command prompt, type e:\frst.exe (for the x64 version, type e:\frst64.exe) and press on Enter.
  • FRST will open.
  • Click on Yes to accept the disclaimer.
  • Click on the Scan button and wait for the scan to complete.
  • A log called FRST.txt will be saved on your USB Stick, attach this file to your next post.

There is nothing special to see that could cause the startup issue, so I see no other option than performing a repair install.

Is it possible to do a repair install if I can't get into Windows? How do I go about backing up the entirety of my drive (including hidden files/folders, etc.)? Any programs without having to pay?

If I understand correctly it's a dual boot with Windows 7 / 10?

And yes you can image the complete drive from Windows 7 as well using Macrium Reflect: Using Macrium Free 30 Day Trial to Backup or Image your drives
Another tip: Hasleo Backup Suite is free.
Thanks, I have reinstalled Windows 10 without issue and hopefully I won't run into any problems in the future. I'll make sure to backup properly before modding my system next time.

Thanks for all the help!
