Windows 10 Release - Discussion

Hmmm. I'll give SFC a whirl. That's for that tip Bill. [My Outlook won't send email...]

Well, I ran SFC and it fixed it....

The cause is either Windows.Media.Speech.UXRes.dll.mui or mlang.dll.mui which SFC both fixed. I'm not sure which/both. SFC also flagged adcjavas.inc as corrupt, but failed to fix that one automatically.

Interesting. I am glad it fixed Outlook but adcjavas.inc is confusing. Not really sure what that does. I see references going back to ASUS and W98SE!!! ??? I also see this complaint from yesterday with W10 upgrade. Odd. @magicandre1981 says here he fixed it by copying the AMD64 file to the x86 directory - but not sure you want to try that.

I woke my W10 machine this morning to find all my desktop icons had been re-arranged again to the left side of Monitor 1. :( And so far, not really enthused with Edge.

I installed last night and finally got a chance to play around with Windows 10 this morning.

I'm very very cynical about Microsoft's new method of changing the default apps for your browser.

Seems calculator doesn't work for me (and others) in Windows 10. A curious bug...

I think it is too bad you cannot simply start typing Windows Update in your start menu and get to Windows Update. You have to go through a big rigmarole through that Action Center icon you can't get rid of to get to Settings to find Windows Update! What a pain.

These are purely my first thoughts - I haven't put any research into fixing issues yet.

The biggest things that annoy me about the OS:

1) Difficulty in switching default apps - it's designed purposefully to keep Windows 10 users on Edge and Bing.

2) Windows 10 - the anti-privacy edition. Make sure to check your privacy settings if you don't want more data than Facebook has on you reported back to Microsoft...

3) Can't wait to see ads on Windows 10/future iterations of the OS. :r1:

Yeah, I set IE as my default then a bit ago, got an iexplorer exception error every time I clicked on a link. I rebooted and it cleared it. Now I just installed that Cumulative Update (which required another reboot :() and now when I clicked on the link in my email to reply here, IE opened with a second tab telling me, "You should try Microsoft Edge". :(

I stopped using Edge because there is no add-on support for adblockers! :banghead:

I was brought up not to complain about something given to you for free, but still... .

Well, I hate the "if it's free you're the product" expression, but Microsoft is still a commercial company... they're not offering it free out of benevolence.

Should be yes. I changed to only share with other users on my LAN which should be sufficient. We have about 100 computers. Maybe it's a good thing....time will tell.

I saw and selected that option during install.

What I am confused about now is Settings is not under my Start menu. I have to either type in Settings or select it through the Action Center icon. I cannot find where I have Settings show in my start menu.

That said, I forced it via Start8 so it is there not, just not on the right side. I may have to uninstall Start8. I also need to check out Start10.

Well, I uninstalled Start8 and was not that impressed with W10's Start menu. So I upgraded to Start10 and I highly recommend it. Now my W10 really does seem to be a new and improved W7! :)
