February 11, 2025—KB5051974 (OS Builds 19044.5487 and 19045.5487) - Microsoft Support

Error: Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x8007000d)

Items tried:
- sfc /scannow as administrator
- Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth as administrator
- ran ComponentsScanner / no corruption found
- maually downloaded file from Microsoft Update Catalog and tried to install .msu
- many other things tried like this:
net stop wuauserv & net stop bits & net stop cryptsvc
rd /s /q c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
net start wuauserv & net start bits & net start cryptsvc
sc config wuauserv start=auto

Hi @bw1,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Can someone tell me if I didn't do something correctly in my post or if I just need to keep waiting? The bot said it could be several days. I'm not sure if 16 days is long or not. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Download
67139f7e69a58-SFCFix-ico.PNG
SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Thank you for your help! I really appreciate your effort.

Those files helped me make some progress but I have a new problem.

I'm able to download and install KB5051974 via Windows Update successfully. Once the install is finished I'm prompted to Restart. I click the Restart now button and it reboots. "Working on Updates" gets to 30% and then the system reboots as expected. However, instead of continuing to install after the reboot I'm sent to Performing Automatic Repair. After that completes and I eventually get my desktop. I get a message "We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure".

When I go to Windows Update I see a message "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0845)" and the Retry button.

I clicked the Retry button and the same thing happens. I've tried it 3 times.

I don't know if there is a problem with some of my hardware or if KB5051974 is just not compatible with my system. I'm going to post my results to Microsoft Feedback Hub.

I've run Memtest 86+ and my RAM is good. My NVMe is not that old and should be fine. My video card and motherboard and processor are not that old too.

I'm attaching another CBS.zip in case you can help me or offer any other suggestions. Thank you.

Hi,

Please do the following.

Download the
577bf0efb8088-FRST.png
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.
