Windows 11 BSODs & failure of windows to update

Always from an elevated command prompt (see 35th post), try this command that tries to repair "the configuration registry database":

Not sure whether the next step would be looking at DISM log file or something else, but I figure it can't hurt to include a copy of it for 2/24 in anticipation of that possibility.

  • From an elevated command prompt (see 35th post) run: sfc /scannnow
    Wait until it finishes.
  • (From the same elevated command prompt) run: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    Wait until it finishes.
  • Download https://sysnative.com/apps/componentscollector/ComponentsScanner.exe
    Double-click ComponentsScanner.exe and click Yes on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt which appears.
    Follow the on-screen instructions.
    If prompted to perform any repairs, press Y to agree.
    Once complete, a report will be saved to your desktop called ComponentsScanner.txt
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
    Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
    Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
    Click on the Yes button here.
    A file called CBS.zip will be created on your desktop.
  • Go to Windows Update
    Click (create) new thread.
    Title: [W11 PRO x64] DISM Error: 1009 - The configuration registry database is corrupt.
    Add a brief explanation and attach/upload the files CBS.zip and ComponentsScanner.txt.
    And start the new thread, obviously... :-)
    A windows update expert will help you (just give them some time).
