My ACER NITRO 5 laptop audio stopped working all of a sudden. I uninstalled the audio driver and was unable to reinstall it. I then discovered that Windows Update was unable to install anything as well. I was unable to run SFC /scannow and DISM because of the issue, but the first run of the componentscanner.exe did a fix on a duplicate registry and allowed me to run SFC and DISM.

However, this didn't fix either of my problems. Thankfully, I found somebody thanking you on the Microsoft Forums for your help when nothing else would work. The customer support representative suggested you to their client and you successfully fixed their issue.

I have attached the CBS log zip file and componentscanner text file to this post.

When I try to install the audio driver I get an error 0x000003F1: The configuration registry database is corrupt

Windows update is either getting Install Error - 0x000003F1 or 0x80070103

Windows Update 23H2 successfully downloads and initially installs, but when it asks you to restart to do the rest of the install it fails and removes the whole update...

P.S.

ComponentScanner.exe did say it found issues again in the command prompt window, but the output text file didn't seem to highlight that this time around.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi @legend911,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Afterwards reboot the system and attempt to update. If it fails attach the latest CBS logs and the following logfile.

Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file setupapi.dev.zip in your next reply.
