[SOLVED] Windows 7 cannot install SP1 (again !! please help - CheckSUR log attached)

Hi Stephen,

Given the huge error log I took it upon myself to do the windows 7 upgrade repair and have now done so. SP1 install from downloaded package get to stage 2 of 2 100% restarted and then gave a confusing message saying it was NOT successful.

Screen capture here :-

SP1_Capture.JPG

sfc\scannow now says there are no integrity violations. Here is the new log :-

This is crazy !!! Hope you're getting on better with your issues.

All the very best,
Rob.

Hi,

Could you please clarify exactly what you mean by "windows upgrade repair"? Do you mean this --> https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...-install-windows-windows-7-windows-vista.html

I would like to see the latest SURT log:

Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  1. Download the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft --> here <-- Please save the tool to a convenient location as it may be necessary to run it again.
  2. After the download has completed, double-click the file and wait while it initializes.
  3. Click Yes to begin installation. Please note it may take some time to complete and may appear to stall whilst installing. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal behaviour. Also note, whilst I say "installing", it's actually running the tool and can therefore be "installed" (run) repeatedly.

Export SURT log

  1. Click the Start button :startorb: then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Then find and double click on the CBS folder.
  5. Right-click on the CheckSUR.persist.log file, and select Copy.
  6. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the SURT log appear on your Desktop called CheckSUR.persist.log.
  7. Right-click on this new file, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  8. A new file, also called CheckSUR.persist (CheckSUR.persist.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  9. Attach this new file to your next post.

Hi Rob,

I can officially pronounce you the world record holder for the largest CBS log  Weighing in at 1,368,343 lines long and 326,618KB.

After flicking through a mere 100,000 lines of the log, I can't see any signs of a problem. It's very odd that it failed with a success error code.

Can you reboot please, then when you've logged back in, open your start menu and type winver in the box. When it opens, take a screenshot and send us a copy please!

An install from Windows Update rather than the stand-alone installer done the trick !

Thanks to a brilliant forum for your help - especially Stephen :thumbsup2: Think you will be working at NASA when you leave school !!!!

All the best,
Rob.
