[SOLVED] Windows 7 PRO SP1 64-Bit Multiple Windows Update Failures from Dec 2018 On

Hi! Apologies for this extreme delay.

Since it has been a while, please provide a fresh set of logs and let me know which updates are listed when you check for updates.

Hi! Apologies for this extreme delay.

Since it has been a while, please provide a fresh set of logs and let me know which updates are listed when you check for updates.

That is a very general statement and I am inferring what I hope you wished to imply: the logged results of an attempt to install all the pending Windows Updates for my system.
  • An initial SURT run (CheckSUR.log) which will identify the state of the components hive at the start of this exercise.
  • A screen shot that lists all the updates selected by the W.U. process for installation.
  • A brand new CBS.log file with only the activity attempting to install those updates. Hopefully this will log all the failures without my attempting to record them as they fail: a near impossible task.
  • A final SURT run CheckSUR.log documenting the new state of the components hive. My prediction: it will show more corruption than the initial “ground zero” CheckSUR.log.
This process will probably require several posts.

Reboot started.

The reboot failed about 10% into the Configuring Windows pre-load before starting the full Windows OS. System automatically rebooted and reverted back whatever could not be configured. Final List Of Update Success and Failures - Only the KB2592687 Important Update Succeeded.jpg

The full CBS.log for the entire operation: Identifying 11 updates and attempting to install them, with only 1 important and four Hotfix updates successful. It's too big here for here, so this is the URL link to it in my dropbox: 04-12 Total Windows Update Run CBS Log.zip

The attachment is the Final SURT Log after the W.U. Run. I was wrong; it's cleaner than at the start.

I collected the Components Hive again. Here if the URL Link to that in my dropbox: 04-12 Final Components Hive.zip

Note that both these drop box files will be deleted when I have to put something else up there for you, so please grab them now.

Here endeth the lesson.

No, please try the Defender update and attach CBS if it fails. If it succeeds, keep installing the updates one by one until you get to the one that fails and provide CBS.log.

Please export your whole CBS folder.

It's way too late for that; I've moved on to the following, which will NOT include the KB915917 run because I'm expunging the CBS.log file before each W.U. one-update run.

Here are the latest results:

KB447441 – succeeded with reboot.
KB3080149 – succeeded with reboot.
2019-02 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework… - succeeded with reboot.
2019-04 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4493472) – failed in pre-configure after reboot.
Here is the CBS.log file for the KB4493472 run.

BTW: The only thing left in the CBS folder besides a CBS. log are:

DeepClean.log as of 3/14/2019
FilterList.log as of 3/18/2019

Are these really of interest at this point?

OK. Here is the score card for today's W.U. runs. 04-13 Windows Update Score Card.jpg All that is left to install: the two failed updates in the score card. everything else available is now installed, which is quite a bit of progress from Day 1 in this thread.

I have to quit for the day now. Sorry.

Thanks. When able, do this:

Add Missing Package
1. Click the Start button and type cmd.exe in the search box.
2. Right-click on the cmd that comes up and select Run as administrator.
3. Once you are at the command prompt, copy/paste the following line and hit enter.
pnputil -a C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_cpu.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.24291_none_bba030ab1f623588\cpu.inf

Let me know if it says successfully installed. If it does, try installing the updates again and if any fail, attach both logs.
