Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16537616/Packs.zip
Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

That's amazing! Let me know how it goes :) There are some particular scenarios where errors persist at this stage (most usually 0x8024200D), but these are almost all very easily fixed, so do not be concerned. We sometimes just need to give Windows Update a little kick to get it going again after fixing the root causes above.

Hi ownGlaxie,

Firstly, yes Richard is an oracle

Secondly, for any update failing with 0x8024200D, this can be solved by downloading the update from the Microsoft website and installing it manually.

i did the last 3 updates manually and it works :)

after a windows update-agent update (nice word combination

) i got 32 new updates

and what can i say they passed by with no trouble

I'm really glad all is working well now! Thank you again for being so understanding during this time and being such a pleasure to work with.

The 0x8024200D error should in theory not return, it should only occur for a small subset of updates which have already tried and failed to install prior to the repair of the root causes which we've fixed.

In theory this same problem should not return. Whether you develop a completely unrelated and entirely new problem next patch Tuesday, who can say? I guess it depends how lucky you're feeling when you click 'install'
