Windows 7 Update failures

I ran it a few more times as it successively found a few more updates it wanted to install. Successful on the important ones, but it's stumbling on an optional update for the graphics adapter.

Code 80070103 WIndows Update encountered an unknown error.

This is the update that failed.

An optional update isn't really needed so I wouldn't repair it if the rest is working perfectly.
We can have a look. Copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log to your desktop first.
Attach that file on your desktop to your next reply.

When I try to attach, it tells me "You don't have permission to open this file"
I tried going into the file properties and giving full control, but that didn't help. Currently the only account is the administrator. (I lost the user account somewhere along the line in trying to fix my problems before coming here for help.)

BTW, I realize it's a holiday weekend in the US. I'll watch for replies, but I'm OK if you want to time off today and tomorrow!

Thats why I asked you to copy the file to your desktop first and upload the copy.

Not a problem, I don't live in the US.

Restart the machine and try to attach the file CBS.log on your desktop again.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, 2 files will appear on your desktop, SFCFix.txt and log.zip.
  • Attach both files to your next reply.
