Windows 7 Won't Update

Unfortunately I don't have either the retail or OEM version of Windows 7.

The only option left is that you have a counterfeit/illegal version of Windows 7, is that right?

If you buy a Windows 7 disc (that matches your version and edition of Windows 7 currently installed), you'll be able to do a repair install. If you want to do a clean install instead, it's totally up to you.

The system was built by a friend so I can try to get the disc off him.

Either that or buy a new one that hopefully matches my computer.

Don't know if it's really worth starting from scratch just to get Windows Updates working again?

But I guess it's leaving it unprotected from important security updates if it isn't functioning?

Sounds like a job for the next holidays.

Thanks again for all your help and the time you've spent on it.

It's very much appreciated.

I can tell you how to look up your version of Windows 7 so you can buy the right disc for it.

Yes. Not installing your Windows Update leaves your system vulnerable and security holes present on it will not be fixed and could therefore be exploited by hackers and malware.

And no problem, you're welcome :)
