[SOLVED] Windows 7 x64 Updates - Error Code: 80070490

Step 1:
Install Update with DISM
  1. Download the update MSU here: https://catalog.s.download.windowsu..._fdd28f07643e9f123cf935bc9be12f75ac0b4d80.msu
  2. Copy the MSU file to a convenient location (such as C:\temp).
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  5. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    cd C:\temp

    replace C:\temp with your path if different

    expand windows6.1-kb3011780-x64_fdd28f07643e9f123cf935bc9be12f75ac0b4d80.msu -f:* C:\temp

    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\windows6.1-kb3011780-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
    Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.
  7. If you receive any other message:
    Post a screenshot of the Commandprompt window.
    Zip and attach the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Step 2:
Go to Control Panel - Windows Update - Change settings.
Select Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.
Click OK.
Check Windows Update but do not install any updates yet.
Provide a screenshot of the available important updates first.
 
Put a checkmark at KB3045685 only.
Click OK to install that particular update.
Report the result.
 
Nice. Try to install KB3059317 only.
 
Great. Try these updates in the given order, one at a time: KB3060716, KB3068708, KB3071756 and KB3080149.
If one fails provide the file cbs.log first.
 
Great. Try these updates in the given order, one at a time: KB3110329, KB3118401, KB3123479 and KB3126587.
If one fails provide the file cbs.log first.
 
Restart the machine and try again.
 
Great. Try to install the remaining KBs

Everything installed fine + some other KBs that where found + all the optional ones!

I will mark this thread as solved.

Follow the instructions below to cleanup the tools and logfiles used in this thread.
Rename the file FRST64.exe to uninstall.exe and run it. This will remove all files and folders created by FRST and the tool itself.
Reboot the machine to complete.
You may remove all other tools and log files.
 
Oh, that's a neat way to uninstall 🤩

I've removed everything, and did:
  • Virus Scan
  • Clean Disk
  • CHKDSK Scan
  • SFC Scan
  • Defrag
For a full maintenance check 🤓
 
Okay. You may also create a backup.
