Windows 7x64 cant get updates installed after the previous to last (2019-12) Update

got news: it worked.

I was studuying the windows update log and saw that what failed was the download of a specific file "http://download.microsoft.com/v11/2/windowsupdate/redir/v6-win7sp1-wuredir.cab"

tried to dl it, it worked fine with my default browser. Then tried to DL it using Interent explorer and it failed.

this led me to investigate, and turns out IE was blocked by the Windows firewall.

Disablign it allowed the update process to work, and got 3 updates downlaoded and installed.

I got questions still:

I cant find the rule blocking IE. I searched all of the rules one by one..

there was to my knowledge no such rule in place before hand, and as you may recall other updatres were being downloaded and installed ( dot net ones for example).

could this be a side effect of the windows repair program? and why would it block IE with the Windows firewall?

There is a way to reset the Windows Firewall rules. Have you created any custom rules for installed applications? If so, they will have to be recreated after this operation.

Command Prompt

Sorry for taking so long to come back it has been the work from hell due to Coronovirus related crap.

I do have a bunch of custom rules, thinkg about exporting them and trying to import them to see if the problem comes back post reset.
For conveniences sake I got my custom rules in 3 "groups" so it makes easi(er) to suposedly backup and restore them.

I;ll hold off for now. I;m thinking about whethe rit si worth upgrading this old box to Windows 10 since update works now.
