[SOLVED] Windows 8.1 Pro x64 - corrupt files not fixed after sfc /scannow

Manish, since we are dealing with BitShifts here, it means that your RAM and/or HDD is going bad. Therefore, I'll ask you to test each of your RAM sticks using Memtest86+ and report back here to let me know of the results (if the RAM sticks are still good, or there's errors).

The instructions to achieve that are in the thread below.

Dear Aura,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, i followed your advice and it took me quite some time to figure out how to run the MemTest86+ v5.01on my Windows 8.1Pro laptop.
Yes, the 8 Gb RAM which came pre-installed on my laptop is showing a lot of errors. But still i don't know how to get a log file.
And, how to scan the SSD of the laptop for errors?
Attached is a photo of the ongoing MemTest86 scan.

Did you test the RAM stick individually or together? If you tested it individually, are both of them showing up errors? If you tested them together, you have to test them individually to identify which ones are going bad, because you'll need to change them.

I tested them individually.
Only 1 of them, which came pre-installed on the laptop is showing errors.
The other one, i did 11 pass (over 10 hours) showed no errors.
Now, how to do the SSD scan.

So you'll have to change that RAM stick. Also, one of my Instructor is asking the following:

When you started the test do you know if they enabled SMT (Multi-Core) mode (press the F2 key within a few seconds of booting into Memtest) or did they let the default "Fail Safe" mode run but simply not touching anything?

I'll post the instructions to check the SSD health after.

To enable it, you need to press the F2 key within a few seconds of booting into Memtest

Yes, I did that.
Pressing F2 brings me back to the option of initial setup.
In this laptop F2 & F7 gives me the boot option setups.

Alright that's good. We'll test the hard drive now. Follow the instructions below please.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:
  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe;
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Except the fact that your SSD highest temperature is way too high (around 70 degrees celsius) and that you should keep an eye on your "Reallocation Event Count" (see if it keeps on increasing), your SSD is fine. How old is it?

Alright. Well, let me know when you'll have replaced the RAM stick and we'll continue with fixing the Registry corruption errors :)

Yup, I removed the defective 8 GB RAM and only kept the new 8 GB RAM. So, I think we are well to go on ahead on fixing the Registry errors.

Alright. I'll work on a fix once I get home tonight since I'm a bit busy at work now. As long as you don't reinsert the failing RAM stick, it's good.

Ok, sure.
Thanks for all your support.
Meanwhile do you need any log files from my laptop - for you to work once you reach home ?

I should be good with the ones I had since they contain the information I need. If I need more, I'll let you know, thanks for asking :)

Sorry Manish for not having replied to you yesterday and today. I've got caught in unexpected events after work so I didn't have time to work on your fix (I would say it's 50% done, now I just need to work on the other 50%). I'll work on it tomorrow at work whenever I have downtimes, and if I cannot complete it then, it'll be tomorrow evening.

Once again, truly sorry about this.

Dear Aura,
Thanks for your support.

Well the good news is that - last night I received the Windows 10 Pro upgrade and today I did the upgrade. Everything is so smooth till now.
So, as I don't have the Windows 8.1 Pro system anymore - I won't be needing any support at the moment.

Will catch up with you, if i encounter any errors in this windows 10 pro - x64 system !!!

Thank you for everything. Please take your time to manage your things at your end.
Have a good time.
:-)
Manish
