[SOLVED] Windows 8.1 Updates are failing to install

Lets try another way.

Please download RegBak (by AceLogix Software) from the link below and save it to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on regbak.zip then select Extract all... and extract the files to your Desktop

    For 32-bit (x86) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak.exe
    For 64-bit (x64) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak64.exe

If you are unsure whether you have x86 or x64 Windows, see here

  • Without changing any options, click Next. RegBak will now backup all of your registry hives.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file (it has no extension) to your Desktop
  • Upload this file for me to analyse please, using any of the following options:

    Microsoft Skydrive
    Dropbox
SendSpace (or any other file-sharing site of your preference)

The link you provided did not work for me. So I went to the Acelogix site and located the Regbak zip file and downloaded it. I then ran the 64 bit version, when it was finished I navigated to the Windows\system32\config folder under the date folder you described above and found the components file.
Here is the link to that file.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2zx6u6ileesogdi/COMPONENTS?dl=0

If that was not the correct way to do it please let me know.

We seem to have a bit flip key here:

Code:

I am not sure if this worked, when I copied the command and pasted it in the command prompt window. The first command worked find but the second line gave an ERROR: Invalid Key Name.

However here are the contents of the 1 file.

Let me know.

That looks good.

Please try Windows updates again. If WU fails can you please run SFC /SCANNOW again and post a new CBS log?

Yup, that seems to have fixed it, I ran the windows updates this morning and they all applied successfully. Well the ones I had time to check.

I will review all the updates after I get home from work just to be sure but it does look good for now.

I will let you know if there are any additional problems but if not Thanks for all the assistance! I really appreciated it!
