I am sorry for the delay (again) I have been trying to reconstruct this but I am not having any luck. Is a refresh install an option? You wont loose your personal files.

yes that is an option. i backed everything up on external hard drive. what would be the best way to go about the fresh install?

The easiest way is to have a look at the below link and click on "Remove everything and reinstall Windows"

This looks to pertain to Windows 8.1. I only have Windows 8 since every time I tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 the download would drop out. I'm not sure if these instructions are still applicable.
