Having run cleanup tool, are there any versions of .NET still present on the system?

Yes, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5. Log file: Dropbox - cleanup_main.log

In my programs and features list none.

Please try uninstalling them.

Not sure if it was that what you meant, but I cleaned every version manually that was shown in the list instead of "windows 7 (all versions)".
Then I tried to run the updates again...

I dunno any more how many hours I spent on this problem but finally this hint solved it.
