I know this is for PDF Professional 6 , but the similarities of the event viewer info are uncanny -

Interesting!! To my knowledge it is the latest version. I basically have my desktop set up as a clone of my notebook (VAIO), which is really my primary computer. PDF Converter has run on my notebook without a hitch. JC, it has been a bizarre year of things happening on both my systems (as you know from my past posts)....all different issues, but I am not doing anything fancy; however, I do install quite a few applications for my work, and have many utilities to keep the systems clean. I don't have to tell you how complicated Windows can be as applications become more robust...Regards and by the way, MSE on the notebook works as if it isn't even there! VIPRE is used at the company under contract really without any problems.

Not sure what you mean by that. If you mean MSE does its job while staying in the background and out of the way, then that is good, expected and the reason I use it on all my systems.

Exactly what I mean...for a while I thought VIPRE was the best, light on the system, and effective antivirus, but my VAIO notebook had big problems with it. I plan to switch to MSE for my business once the VIPRE contract is up.

Does VIPRE have a firewall?

If so, that could be the cause of the numerous 0xc0000005 exceptions.

0xc0000005 may literally interpret as "memory access violation", but is also "access denied".

3rd party firewalls are notorious for causing apphangs/ appcrashes as they tend to block local NETBIOS ports used by system services -
- Explorer fading white background
- blue circle spinning
- "Not Responding"

I tried the VIPRE firewall with their full suite, and had all sorts of conflicts on my previous Vaio notebook; so I dropped it. I am sure it's a good product and I have a lot of respect for all their products, but I agree with your statement about 3rd party firewalls. By the way, today I installed an update for PDF Converter on my notebook, and no problems at all. On Monday I will attempt a reinstall on my desktop. Let's see what happens.

Regards to all,
Willy

Hello again All,

Just to update you in case someone goes through the same problem. I reinstalled PDF Converter Professional 8.0 again and lo and behold, the same problem began with Windows Explorer. I then installed a new patch that Nuance developed (very difficult installation because it had to be done in normal mode). The problem is now solved and I have PDF C....installed and functioning well. I won't spend any more time trying to figure out what happened, but it is very odd as my desktop and notebook are clones of each other as to applications...and my notebook never had the problem. I now consider this a case closer. Thanks again.

Yeah... no... not really. You may have installed the exact same programs on each machine, but it is likely your notebook are very different - in terms of hardware and the drivers they use. And you did not say, but it appears your PC is running 64-bit Windows. Is the notebook?

The fact Nuance had a new update that fixed this problem suggests the problem was on their end. However, that is not to say a recent Microsoft update did not change something that the old driver was dependent on. That happens too.

As this site has solved some unbelievable problems (BSOD's and others) on my notebook system. I now have a problem on my desktop with an incessantly looping "Windows Explorer has stopped working....Windows Explorer is Restarting". This occurs when running in regular Windows 7 mode, as well as Safe Mode. The intervals are approx. every 10 seconds, which makes it almost impossible to try any repairs. I have tried everything to my knowledge (I am not a technician, but consider myself fairly good at troubleshooting from years of experience). I have gone to restore points, was able to run SFC using the command prompt without any integrity findings. I would rather not reinstall the system because of the vast number of programs I have installed.

I haven't been able run Malwarebytes or any other windows diagnostics software because Explorer keeps crashing every 10 minutes. I thought of Malware because of the inability to run anything long enough to function.

Any prior experiences with something like this?

Thanks.

Try right clicking windows explorer, run as administrator, hope this helps, Battman

Hey guys, hate to drudge up an old thread, but I am having the exact same problem as Amcgrap and am not quite so tech savvy, I think. I"m running the same PDF converter, and having the exact same issue with the Windows Explorer crash loop in both normal and safe mode. In normal, the crash occurs so quickly that I can't do anything at all. In safe mode, the crash loop is restricted to about 5-7 seconds between crashes. So, I know this is probably not recommended, but I am trying to avoid completely reinstalling everything, so how would I go about finding that dll file for Nuance PDF Pro 8 in safe mode in Windows 7? I want to go ahead and try to delete that so I can check to see if it will allow me to uninstall in normal mode. As it stands now, I can't uninstall in safe mode because windows explorer crashes before the uninstall can begin. Thanks, and i'm sure I missed a lot of information I should have given, so any help would be much appreciated!

I am using Windows 7 - 64 Bit on a Dell XPS Laptop.

I have just had this problem reoccur after spending 2 hours trying to solve it a couple of weeks back. The last time I ended up deleting the PDFCore8_x64.dll which only seemed to effect the plug-in PDF viewer in Outlook and the behaviour when a link to a PDF document was clicked from within an email. I have no idea how the problem has come back into existence as I don't recall doing any update on PDF Converter.

I think the file is located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\PDF Professional 8\bin

Am just deleting it now and notice the date of creation of that file is 9/12/2011. I think there has been an update to PDF Converter 8 since. However, it caused further problems for me viewing PDFs so I had been going along quite happily until recently with the original installation of PDF Converter 8.

I assume the problems have occurred due to a Windows 7 update in recent months which has somehow changed how the particular .dll is loaded.

Would be interested to receive a link to any Nuance Patch for this problem.

I just solved this problem for Vista SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 531 by deleting large files from my desktop! I had tried all the other stuff first. Why didn't Microsoft suggest this? What morons!!!

So it is Microsoft's fault you used up all your free disk space? :(

FTR, MS regularly recommends cleaning out clutter with Windows Disk Cleanup and uninstalling user installed programs to free up space and improve performance.

I have over 100GB of free disk space. Is there a limit to the disk space that just the desktop can use?

That "just the desktop" can use? Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by that but 100Gb of "free" disk space is gobs of free disk space - ASSUMING it is not excessively fragmented.

That said, there is no limit to the amount of disk space the "OS" can use - because unless the OS is using those files, those files are ignored by the OS. That said, you can run out of drive letters.

For example, the wastebasket has an allocated amount of disk space. Could the desktop be like that? And, I just moved the large desktop files to my documents, so not really deleted from the hard drive.

Windows' Desktop and the Recycle bin are totally different and should not be compared.

You really should not store files (other than a few short cuts) on your desktop as those items are loaded during boot. So a cluttered Desktop can affect performance.
