Windows Installer Service

I've had comodo dragon on my computer but I had to uninstall it because it was messing with my internet connectivity. Right now I'm only using the default windows defender and firewall. All the settings for those services were as you put.

I tried all the services and they are fine. I used to have comodo dragon but it caused connectivity difficulties so now I just use windows defender and firewall.

i ran the community uninstaller though. It removed a lot of left over registry bits and stuff, and I tried installing stuff after I restarted and it still doesn't work.

Its not looking good from here, unfortunately.

I am all out of ideas of where to go from here. Only one resort I can think of and that's by doing a Refresh install. This shouldn't delete any of your personal files but you will loose all your currently install programs. Just because the refresh shouldn't delete your files doesn't mean that you shouldn't back everything up. Before we continue do you have any USB Pen Drives, Blank DVD's or an External hardrive? I would like you to go through all personal documents and back up everything just in case the refresh fails.

Also your version of Windows 8, is it 8 or 8.1? Did you own a Retail License (with a disc) or did it come pre installed? Is this version Pro, Home, Enterprise?

I don't really have an external hard drive that is big enough to hold all my files. I have windows 8.1 and it came pre-installed on my computer. I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure it's the home edition.

Are you able to get one? or work out some ways of backup? I would hate for you to loose anything important.

Also its always good practice to keep all your files backed up just in case your PC crashes.

I think I can get one but I have to wait a bit. I usually do have everything backed up but I'm away from home for a bit so I don't have my external hard drive. It doesn't really bother me that much, so I'll just wait until I can get back home in a bit to backup everything and re-install. Thank You for your help though.

I have been doing some research on this service, I want to see if we can trigger a log from Windows Installer

Please click Here to download -> Runt he file after the install is done -> Follow through Next on all the prompts.

Once it has completed please try running a few more installations. The installations will fail but want to see if it produces some logs.

Right click on the
aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
button -> Click on Run -> Type in %TEMP% -> Now have a look through this list for any files for a log file that starts with msiXXXXX.log -> The MSI will always be at the start of the file name -> But the XXXX will be for different numbers and letters for example msib3a6g.log

Please find all the logs add them into a zip file and attach to your next post.

From what I can make out the logs are giving the same information that we had previously

Code:
Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

Time to wait until the backup is done before the refresh.

Sorry for necroing, but I eventually solved this same problem by adding the following registry entries:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
@="Msi install server"
"AppId"="{000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

Hope it helps someone!
