Windows Server 2008 R2 - Windows Updates rollingback after reboot when reaches 95%

It did installed and I reboot the server, try to update just one restart and reverting.

Hi!

Thanks.

Please try creating a new user account and call it Sysnative.

Log in and attempt the update from it.

On top of that, please do the following:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Step#1 - Export EventLog hive
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.).
  • Name this file EventLog (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload to Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Thanks.

Please check the permissions and attributes on files 7B296FB0* in C:\Windows\System32 directory.

You may need to enable hidden files and folders in order to see them.

Hi,

Security - Administrators (Full Control), File Attributes (File is ready for archiving and Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file) both are checked.

Please do the following:

Farbar Service Scanner
1. Download Farbar Service Scanner from here, and move it to the Desktop
2. Right-click on FSS.exe > Run as Administrator
3. Checkmark everything, and click Scan

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor BootLog
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Select the Options....Enable Boot Logging option. A Enable Boot Logging dialog will come up. Just click OK.
3. Create a folder on your desktop named BootLog.
4. Attempt to install the update just like you have in the past. Let the machine reboot and revert just like it has in the past.
5. After the machine has rebooted and come back up to the desktop, open Process Monitor again. A message box will come up telling you that a log of boot-time activity was created and ask if you wish to save it. Click Yes and save to the BootLog folder on your desktop.
6. This may take some time as it converts the boot-time data. Allow it to finish.
7. Zip up the entire BootLog folder on your desktop and upload to a file sharing service of your choice for my review. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace
