NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Afterwards, run System Update Readiness Tool again and attach CheckSUR.log.

Then try updates.

Do you have an earlier backup of the VM or can one be created? I think that the root cause may be related to permission settings, so I'd like to test my theory...

I don't have backup for this server. What permission settings you are talking about.

Based on the error code I am seeing, I would like to reset the permission settings back to defaults to see if that resolves the issue:

Code:
2019-11-04 14:59:41, Info CBS Startup: Package: Package_for_KB3192391~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3 completed startup processing, new state: Staged, original: Staged, targeted: Installed. hr = 0x80070002

2019-11-04 14:59:41, Info CBS Startup: Package: Package_132_for_KB3192391~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3 completed startup processing, new state: Staged, original: Staged, targeted: Staged. hr = 0x800f0826
2019-11-04 14:59:41, Info CBS Startup: Package: Package_133_for_KB3192391~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3 completed startup processing, new state: Staged, original: Staged, targeted: Staged. hr = 0x800f0826

Unless there is something customized set on the Server permission-wise, there should not be any issues after the fix, but I wanted to confirm first.

If we reset the permission is that any impact on the server, application or any corruption.

Corruption and Server as such no, but if there are specific applications configured to have R/W or RO permissions, you may get Access Denied errors.

I've done this before and did not have any issues, but am always careful...

Sure!
