[SOLVED] Windows server 2019 - 0x80070003 and 0x80240017 errors

Please post the previous CBS logs as well, the latest log does not reveal any useful information.

Where do you find the previous logs? In that directory I only see the CBSPersist which are very large.

Please ZIP the complete CBS folder and upload it to WeTransfer.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply.

I don't see any issues in your latest logs? What was the result after attempting to update and do you see any errors into the Windows Update history > settings window?

I'm sorry. I thought you meant re-run the last "icacls" command that didn't work. I re-ran the check for updates and it's been on 'Working on updates 100% complete about an hour now.

If this is after the first reboot? Please wait and let it complete to see if it fails again. If so attach a new copy of the CBS logs and the Setupapi.dev.log.

It did some update activity and then rebooted and the percentages of updating went up and now at it's been on 'Working on updates 100% complete about an hour now.

Please be patient and wait until the update fails or not! Sometimes it could take some time to complete the update process on servers. So let it run and report back when it fails.

I let it run overnight. It finally worked. Thank you so much. Is there any settings that we have to switch back? Thanks again.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear this server is up-to-date now! However, there's only an issue with KB4577586 but this update is not applicable.

So you can hide KB4577586 with the following tool of Microsoft so it will not offered again.

Download

wushowhide.diagcab to hide an update.
  • Double click on the wushowhide.diagcab file and press Next.
  • Now the tool will search for updates and performs a scan to detect problems.
  • When this process is complete click on Hide updates.
  • Now an overview will appear with updates that have not yet been installed.
  • Select the update you want to hide and press Next.
  • When the troubleshooting has complete you can close the tool.

I re-ran the 'Check for Updates' this morning and it installed one Defender update. The 'Removal of Adobe flash' wasn't tried again. The computer says it's now up to date.

Great, then we can mark this thread as solved if everything is up-and-running...(y)
