Good afternoon,

We have a Windows Server 2022 Datacenter VM that stopped updating for some reason.
We're seeing Windows Error Reporting logs related to CbsPackageServicingFailure2 & WindowsWcpOtherFailure3.

Hoping the attached logs can be reviewed for potential issues.

Hi @FatalIll,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Good day all, just bumping this one up, hoping someone can review because I can't seem to work out where the issue is unfortunately.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Please upload a new copy of the CBS logs, the ZIP-file in the first post is corrupt.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Download

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi,

Some components does not exist on my VM's, but I can use this weekend an Azure VM with Datacenter 2022 from a colleague as source, but this may take some time to provide the next fix.

I really appreciate it! I will wait to see what you can come up with :)

Please reboot the machine and attach a new copy of the COMPONENTS hive instead of the CBS (Components Based Servicing) hive.

Hey Maxstar, I attached the right COMPONENTS.zip as an edit after I hit post reply, I realized I collected the wrong one. I will get the machine rebooted soon.

I've missed the edit! But please run the following DISM command as well. If it fails with Error 2 attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

I'm amazed that you knew what error code it was going to give...

PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.20348.1

Image Version: 10.0.20348.587

[=============== 26.1% ]
Error: 2

The system cannot find the file specified.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Attached the logs.

It is a pattern of corruptions, and I guess we'll need to replace another 50+ registry keys as well because the CBS log shows only one key each time...

Step 1.
Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
