[SOLVED] Windows server 2022 failed to install KB5028171 with error 0x800f0905

• Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
• Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

• SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
• Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
• Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards try to install KB5029250 again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs and the Component Based Servicing hive.

I just noticed some keys and values which are refering to the evalution version.

You're weclome. Could you please try to remove the following subkey manually:

Open regedit and navigate to the following key and remove the highlighted subkey in red.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\PackageIndex\microsoft-windows-serverstandardevaledition-Wrapper~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~0.0.0.0

The update to standard is done on 19-06-2023 according the DISM log.

Then it seems that this problem already existed before updating/activating this server with a license. In that case I would suggest to perform a repair install with the official ISO file.

Finally the problem is solved!


The solution:

- Delete everything under c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

- Delete the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~20348.1850.1.11
(If you don't have that exact key, look for one with a similarly named starting Package_for_RollupFix but don't confuse it with the Package_for_DotNetRollup ones!)

Glad to hear you've managed to resolve this issue. However, that key does not exists in the Components Based Servicing Hive which is attached in post #30.

And to note: removing registry keys may cause other issues, so please don't remove anything from the registry if you don't know what you're doing!
