[SOLVED] Windows update b0rked, trying to avoid a reinstall

Great, please upload the latest CBS logs. Then I can check which files are missing and provide a fix with copies from a VM here.

The missing files are a part of an preview and out-of-band update, so an ISO as source will not help. I will reload a VM here and install both updates to provide all the missing files.

Here's the next fix.

Step 1.
Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

It's just a hash mismatch this time.

Superb! We now have "The restore operation completed successfully."

Just nipping out to do the school run; I assume I should go ahead and try the "SFC /scannow" next?

Yes, please run the System File Checker as well and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

I think we may be sorted! CBS /scannow reports "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.".

Running a test patch push now. :-).

Thank you so much for your skilled assistance.

You're welcome. Glad I could help and let me know the result of updating this out-dated system...🤞

The system has now been successfully updated to Windows 10 22H2. A total relief so thank you very much once more!
