  • Start FRST.
  • Hit your Windows Key + R to open a Run window
  • Type Notepad then click OK
  • This will open an empty Notepad document

Please export your SideBySide key
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.)
  • Name this file SxS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

I'm sorry to tell you that the pc's still refusing updates. Hope this doesn't frustrate you. I'm fine if we maybe need a little break as this pc is still operable and hopefully won't get worse as time goes on.

That's OK, I don't frustrate easily, and I kinda suspected that the update might fail.

We found a number of possible issues in the logs you posted in posts #161 & #162 but not all of them were entirely file based, but since replacing the files was the simpler fix, we thought it was worth giving it a try first.

The next fix is likely to be registry related, and will depend on what I find in the two Hives you posted in posts #165 & #169

Could take me a while, there's quite a bit of work involved. Will get back to you ASAP.
 
  • Start FRST.
  • Hit your Windows Key + R to open a Run window
  • Type Notepad then click OK
  • This will open an empty Notepad document

Reboot:
  • Save it as fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST (must be in this location)
  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user. Running it on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
  • Now press the Fix button once and wait.
  • FRST will process fixlist.txt
  • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt in the same folder/directory as FRST64.exe
  • Please post me the log
 
Thanks, Gary. I noticed that the fix contains something like System Restore. I think I did mention in the past that the PC's System Restore isn't working either. Just want to confirm if it's still safe to launch this fix.
