Hi, I investigated about dism errors and it seems that my folder WinSxS is corrupt. In this case can I get this folder from another PC which is similar to this one and is working good and just copy paste it to the bad pc, replacing any files?

I would strongly advise against that. The winsxs folder is intricately linked with the registry. Replacing a complete folder from another PC would be highly dangerous and likely cause instability and render your machine unworkable.

We can carry on fixing the files identified as corrupt and hopefully get SFC and DISM to work

oh ok, ill wait for the next fix then. Thank you very much!

Hi, because some progress has been made on DISM (now stopping at 28.5%) lets run again to see if it reports any errors this time to work with.

Please do the following

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan

Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
  5. Please also provide the dism.log

Ok I'll do as you say. In the mean time, this is the post I was talking about. Do you think doing this is a good idea? It's from tenforums.com

Code:
If you have the two computers on the same WLAN or wired network, try sharing the C:\Windows\WINSXS folder on the "good" PC with "READ" for "Everyone" with a Share name of "WINSXS-Good", then open an Administrative Command Prompt on the "bad" computer and map a drive, let's use the letter "R" for "Repair" to the "good" computer, e.g.:

net use R: \\<goodcomputername>\WINSXS-Good <-- Obviously you need to replace <goodcomputername> with the appropriate one for the "good" computer.

Then on the "bad" computer use:

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:R:

When that has finished, if all has gone though successfully, then run, (on the same computer):

SFC /SCANNOW

...and let that complete.

Hope that helps.

Don't forget to go back to the "Good" Computer and stop sharing the folder/remove "Everyone" READ at a minimum.

Cheers,

G.
