[SOLVED] Windows Update Error 0x80073712 on Server 2016

And can you also provide the latest Components hive as you did in post #27, I had not realised the file you provided before was no longer available.

Thank you! The components hive has changed but it does not have all the correct values for this one stubborn component.

I am going to create a fix to repair the various connected sections of the Components, CBS and Side-by-Side sections of the registry. I want to test it out first before giving it to you and I will post it later today or tomorrow.

Hello stroti :-) ,

Here are the instructions:

Step 1:
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. If needed, download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Attach this log into your next post for me to check.

Step 2:
Now try and update your system to the latest SSU using this link Microsoft Update Catalog . If there are any errors or the update fails, please send me the latest CBS.log.

SSU installed successfully! Installed the latest CU without errors :-).

Great! Thanks a lot for solving my problem, philc43!

How do I learn to solve this myself?
