Hi Jared,

Those files are being particularly difficult to track down, but I'll get there eventually. I think I'm going to have to download and extract every .NET 3 update until I find them :) This should deal with the last registry error:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi Jared,

Whilst I hunt down these files, can you try seeing if Windows Update works now? Just posting this so I don't lose it:

6.1.7600.16992 = .NET Framework 3 Update
6.1.7600.21183 = Haven't a clue

Tom

Nope,

Neither Windows update nor SFC /scannow will run. WU gives me the same 80070002 error and SFC is the same resource protection error.

Okay, looks like they need these files then! 25 updates are downloading as we speak, but it could take me a day or two to extract the lot - .NET updates are the worst to extract, everything is named funnily and has a strange structure.

Well my hat's off to you sir, If you come across the pond and find yourself in Winnipeg I owe you a few pints of ale.

Hi Jared,

Finally tracked them down! KB2604114 contains both version 6.1.7600.16992 and 6.1.7600.21183 :D

Tom,

SFCFix is hanging while trying to process directive 2 of 2 (Registry script)

Typo in the script?

I'm just leaving work now so if you end up reposting I'll get to it first thing in the morning.

Did I mention you rock?

Try again :) Fixed. Sorry for the mistake, it was a stupid assumption on my part!

After the SFCFix script has been processed, run SFC as well:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Tom

Hey Tom,

Still can't run SFC, Same windows resource protection error. And I'm still getting the 80070002 error when I try to update windows.

I thought this day would never come, your CheckSUR log is finally clear :p The remaining errors are nothing to worry about and are being incorrectly detected.

Can you post your CBS log please? We'll sort out this 0x80070002 now; though I was hoping it was being caused by those missing .NET files.

Tom

Hi Jared,

Ah yes, I remember this from your last log:

Can you zip up your components hive again, upload it to Dropbox and send me the link please?

C:\Windows\system32\config\components

Tom

Thanks for the file, Jared. For future reference, the components hive is perfectly safe to upload and is only a few details on the Windows components installed on your computer :)

I'm afraid, after all the work we put into your other problems, this final hurdle is one that cannot be fixed. I have looked at your components hive and I regret to inform you that it is damaged beyond repair. A repair install should be enough to fix this:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...-install-windows-windows-7-windows-vista.html

Hopefully it won't come to a clean install!

Tom

Hopefully it works because prior to your fixes the in-place upgrade wasn't working.

Update,

In-place upgrade is giving me a compatibility warning, Itunes (can uninstall so not an issue) and this EDUP wireless USB adapter (Which I cannot find in my device manager to disable/remove as I do not have a wireless USB adapter).

So I chugged on anyways and it says, "Windows Cannot Copy files required for installation. Error code: 0x80070241" when the copying portion reaches 9%.
