[SOLVED] Windows update error 80070246

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

BSOD Log

  1. Please download the 64-bit version of Bluescreenview from here and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on the downloaded file (bluescreenview-x64.zip) and select Extract All. Click the Extract button and a folder will open with the contents that were extracted.
  3. Right-click on BlueScreenView.exe and select Run as administrator. If prompted to Allow, please answer yes.
  4. Once the program opens and finishes scanning, click on the Edit menu and choose Select All.
  5. Then click on the file menu...Save selected Items...and save it to your desktop named BSOD.txt.
  6. Open the BSOD.txt file in notepad (you can simply double-click on the file from the desktop to do this) and copy/paste the contents of this in your next reply.
 
when i run bluescreenview it opens and then nothing happens and it does not scan and it's empty.
sfcfix however went fine.

Copy the C:\Windows\Minidump\ folder to your Desktop.
Right click on the Minidump folder (on your Desktop) then select Send to -> Compressed (Zipped) Folder.

Attach the zip with your reply.
If it is too large to attach upload it to OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace or another service of your choice and post the link.

Control Panel > System and Security > System. Click Advanced system settings. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
Under Write Debugging Information, you can specify a kernel-mode dump file setting.
We want Kernel Memory Dump selected from the drop down list.
 
That's fine.

Let's run a more intense memory test just to be sure. If everything is still good we'll try finding other possible causes.

The test will run for several hours (usually best to run overnight when you don't need the computer), make sure your fans are clean and getting plenty of cool air.

Download DriverView (by Nirsoft) then extract to a folder on your Desktop.
Open the folder and run DriverView.
Click the Save button, name the file driverreport.txt and save the report to your desktop.
Attach the text file on your desktop with your reply.

also don't see anything saying BCM43XX
 
Let's update the drivers.

First, create a System Restore point by following the instructions here: Create a restore point
Write down these instructions, but do not follow them. They will only be required if after the driver update you are not able to connect to the wireless network or get on the internet.

Download Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver Version 6.34.223.5 here: bcm43xx_6_34_223_5.zip, and save it to your Desktop.
Right click on the .zip file and choose Extract All.
Click Extract.
This should create a folder named bcm43xx_6_34_223_5 on your Desktop.

Manually Update Device Driver
  • Open Device Manager by clicking the [FONT=WOL_Bold]Start[/FONT] button

    , clicking [FONT=WOL_Bold]Control Panel[/FONT], clicking [FONT=WOL_Bold]System and Security[/FONT], and then, under [FONT=WOL_Bold]System[/FONT], clicking [FONT=WOL_Bold]Device Manager[/FONT].
  • In the list of hardware categories, find the device that you want to update (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter), and then double-click the device name.
  • Click the [FONT=WOL_Bold]Driver[/FONT] tab, click [FONT=WOL_Bold]Update Driver[/FONT], choose [FONT=WOL_Bold]Browse My Computer for Driver Software[/FONT], click [FONT=WOL_Bold]Browse[/FONT] and choose the bcm43xx_6_34_223_5 folder on your Desktop, then click [FONT=WOL_Bold]Next[/FONT].

Let me know if it finds and installs the driver or if it says something else.

For the Wired LAN driver, download the latest driver Version 17.0.0.3 here: View attachment win_b57_x64-17.0.0.3.zip and save it yo your Desktop.
Right click on the .zip file and choose Extract All.
Click Extract.
This should create a folder named win_b57_x64-17.0.0.3 on your Desktop.
Follow the same steps as before, but look for Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet in Device Manager and browse to the win_b57_x64-17.0.0.3 folder on your Desktop.
 
the wireless lan driver went fine
the wired lan driver however said that the best version was already installed.
 
Ok, let's get a fresh SFC log to see where we're at.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
 
Please run the System Update Readiness Tool.
When the SURT scan is complete, copy the entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop.
Right click on the CBS folder (on your Desktop) then select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Attach the CBS.zip file with your reply.
