Windows update error 800B0100 (Win7 Pro)

Hi Moz,

I have just returned from my holidays.

What is the current state of this machine?

If they are still failing can you please run Windows Update (let them fail) then upload a new CBS log and a new Windows Update log.

Thanks

Hey there,

Welcome back. This machine is still unable to install those updates. I've just been installing Windows Defender updates and any that are Office related, but no others seem to work.

I did run Windows Update again and as expected, they failed along with the reverting updates and several reboots. The user has asked me not to attempt this anymore, so unless you think there's any way we can proceed while ensuring the user won't have to face a reboot loop, I'm not sure if there's much use in gathering the CBS log.

Please let me know if you think there's something in the log we can still use to resolve this without the above issue, and I'll retrieve a copy.

Thanks.

We might be able to find something, but there is also no guarantee we will, often when running windows updates the error error code will appear in CBS log to give a clue as to what is going on. But if your client is happy to leave it then its up to you. If they change your mind I will be here :)

Ok, thanks. I'll grab that CBSlog next time I'm able to connect, then see what we can find.

I wouldn't say we're happy without the security updates, but at least the user isn't unhappy by the trouble it's causing!

Hey there,

Attached is the current CBS.log

As I've been able to install updates for Office and Windows Defender without a problem via Windows Update, I just did that now which I expect you'll see in the log. I just skip the Windows/security updates because of the issue we're dealing with.

Thanks.

The error doesnt appear :( Can you run the updates, let them fail, the moment they have failed then upload the CBS log.

I know this is a pain, but the timing is crucial for the error to appear.

Okay, I think we're stuck on this one then as the user does not want to wait through anymore failing updates. It takes several reboots and attempts to uninstall these after failing.

I'll probably need to look at reinstalling Windows soon, or re-open this thread if there's an opportunity to try one more time. I assume if we do re-try, we won't get lucky with a single fix/reboot.

Thanks to you and tom982 for all your help on this.

Thanks. And by some coincidence, Windows updates decided to attempt another install. This time I was able to get on right after, and captured the CBS.log -- and it's a big one once you extract (attached).

There is nothing...... is it still error code 800B0100?? I have never seen this error not appear in either the CBS log/SURT log before.
