Dear me! What problems we are running into. Please reboot your computer and then run the SFCFix script immediately after reboot. Hopefully it will then work, or we'll have to change tactic.

OK, can you please upload another set of CBS logs.

Thank you!

Hello again :)

There's some good news and some bad news. Firstly, that 0x80070002 error could have meant that we've finally fixed the error we've been having trouble with, or it could have meant that we've gone back a stage. Well, the good news is that error is fixed, and we have not gone back a stage! The error code's changed because we've fixed one error and moved onto the next.

But there's a problem: the new error code isn't very easy to fix. It involves illegal characters which confuse the Microsoft registry parser. This means that none of the normal tools can fix the problem. They can't read it, change it, delete it, anything really.

However, this in itself is not too much of an issue, for I have ported another registry parser to Windows from Linux. This one is incredibly defensive, and is usually able to cope with such problems. However, your particular corruption is causing even it to crash. Now, normally, I would open up the source code and see if I can fix the crash. But...I'm currently on holiday for another week and don't have the source code with me.

Can I please ask you to hold on for a couple more days, and I'll let you know whether I think this is going to be fixable, or whether we need to consider a Repair Install.

Thank you, and I'm really sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Richard
