Windows Update fails because of CBS corruption

Does Windows Update report an error or just continue 'checking for updates' for a very long time?

My Windows update has started to work again on its own. I did not anything, only, as a last resosrt, simply let it running. It did search for new updatessuccessfully after almost 70 (sic!) hours, then installed them after another 10. Log still reports fatal errors continuously, which does not happen on my other W7 machine. The only thing I ran was tweaking.com's windows repair utility, but it reported no errors to fix (except for missing ntfs junctions, but that was no actual error, because those are just translated into Czech). So the actual solution may be to just wait it out. Windows Update is functional so far, but extremely slow.
