I'm having trouble with my Surface Pro 3 running Windows 8.1. Windows Update says it has never run and lists various error codes when it tries to run including 80240440. I have run SFC/SCANNOW and SFCFix and have log files for these. The CBS.txt files is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o6xffy91vx14t8x/cbs.txt?dl=0 and contents of SFCFix are below, which shows one corrupt file that could not be fixed. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello again,

One more file left to fix.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC /SCANNOW

button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  4. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

I downloaded and ran SFCFix as directed above and SFC/SCANNOW and it still shows corrupt files. The CBS.txt file is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o6xffy91vx14t8x/cbs.txt?dl=0

Here you go. Do you need me to run SFC /SCANNOW and create a new CBS.log? If I manually check for updates it still takes forever and I still get the 80240039 error. My Windows Update status still says:
Most recent check for updates: Never
Updates were installed: Never

However, if I look at View Update History I see very recent updates (5/18/15) for Microsoft Office applications and 5/15/15 for Windows updates. I have a Surface 1 that shows the same updates installed. There have been no new updates since 5/15/15 for Windows so I figured maybe that was normal.

I ran SFCfix again and SFC /SCANNOW. The new SFCfix results are below and CBS.txt is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4q0bm04059esx02/cbs_bgreen51_20150522.txt?dl=0

When I try to run Windows Update manually it still fails with error code 802400039. Also, Windows Update still says the most recent check for updates was Never and the last updates installed were Never. However, if I look at my update history under installed updates, I find Microsoft Office updates dated 5/18/15 and Windows updates dated 5/21/15. This means updates are being made in the background, but I am not able to invoke and update manually.

I have now determined that my Surface 3 is still not updating. I have a Surface 1 Pro that received a large number of updates yesterday and today for both Office Professional and Windows, and my Surface 3 only downloaded one Windows update (KB3050267). When I try to check for updates it fails with error code 8024402F. The most recent check for updates shows as 6/1/15 and that updates were installed "never".
