[SOLVED] Windows update fails with code 9C59 while trying to update to IE 11

So this went successfull!

Didn't take any further step...waiting for your instructions.

Good. Let's try IE11 again.

Attempt to install it. If it fails, please send me the following two logs.
c:\windows\ie11_main.log
c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log (You may need to copy this one to your desktop before you attach)

Thanks.

error.pngSo the update did succeed, so if was very happy. But sadly Internet Explorer doesn't work anymore. It gives the error: "Cannot find the ordinal 139 in DLL-file iertutil.dll"
Also Windows gives me a lot of errors.

Bummer. OK, let's see if we can resolve that. Please start out with the following.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Due to a tight time schedule i had to make some decisions. This monday the server needed te be in production again. Our last action left most of the software of the server in a non-working state.

So i did the following steps:
  1. From within Windows started an upgrade installation (same version: Windows 2008R2). After the installation Internet Explorer 8 was working
  2. Tried to upgrade IE. Again gave an error. Only update to IE9 worked.
  3. Install error was 9c48. So I logged in with the local administrator account. Started the IE11 setup with the /update-no switch. After that i was redirected to a Microsoft link, with basically told me IE needed prerequisite updates (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/28478820)
  4. So I downloaded all the updates from the Microsoft KB
  5. two of them weren't installed yet. So I installed those two updates.
  6. Started the IE11 setup again. And now I had success!

So the problem is solved. The complete server is working again en installed with the latest updates. Many thanks for your support.
