FRST Registry Search
 1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Windows Features dialog. Wait until this dialog populates with information. If this does not happen for some reason, please continue with the steps anyway.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps.
5. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
6. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste 6.3.9600.18611 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please attach this to your next reply. It is saved on your desktop named SearchReg.txt.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Let's try something different:

Install Update with DISM



  1. Download the attached update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows8.1-KB2976978-v21-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows8.1-KB2976978-v21-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
    Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
    Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.


Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

oh hey wow it just worked. Says update has been installed.

Now im not all too sure how windows updates work since that one seems to be from a long time ago that kept failing, and i wasn't sure if i had to install a lot more, but it said it installed KB2976978 (the one that had been failing all the time) But also at the top of the list for some reason has most recent Cumulative update: KB3000850. Successfully Installed 1/22/2015

So you think i gotta just keep restarting and updating now?

Edit: I hit check now and it says there arent any new updates. I havent restarted or anything
