[SOLVED] Windows Update is promting me to reboot

Thanks for trying to help me Brian!

The computer is onsite with my customer and since I can't do this remotely can you already give me the manual steps? Just in case if the above does not work so that I can do try it all in one trip to my customer office.

I will probably go onsite today later in the day.

Unfortunately I need to validate the steps with my instructor so I may not be able to give them to you before you are there. We're on very different time zones. I believe the manual steps will involve doing some registry edits that you will be able to do online however.

Ok went onsite and was not able to try your steps because I don't have the windows disks. It is an Acer computer and Acer does not provide the restore disk. It gives me the option to create restore disk but I did not have any DVD's on me. So that did not help.

Can you provide me with the manual steps so that I don't have to go onsite again?

While onsite one other user told me he had the same problem. He also keeps on getting the reboot lock.

OK, no problem. I assume you can gain access to the machine remotely. If that's the case, the rest of these instructions should be able to be done while the machine is online. The machine may be rebooted but I assume you will also be able to re-gain access after the reboot. Please do the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Here is the correct log file. I ran it on the wrong computer at first because of the issue on both computers.

And what I notice now...the problem is gone. What did the fix do to correct this? Finally....

If it does not come back I thank you very much for your help

What did the fix do to correct this?

First I'm glad it's finally fixed!

As to what fixed it, it could be a few things but I suspect in this case it was the following registry key. Not sure if it was corrupt but there were pending updates that were not taking so we deleted this key. It gets recreated when required. We don't normally like to do this as it could cause other issues but I'm hopeful that in this instance that you will be OK. A registry backup as well as a restore point was made so if you notice anything wrong we can always restore back. Keep an eye on it but I think you are good. I'll go ahead and mark this resolved.
