Windows Update will not function at all - please help

OK, thanks for the info. Please do the following.

  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.

Good. Now, go to Windows Updates and check for updates. It may take a considerable amount of time the first time since it needs to rebuild its cache. When the updates finally come up that need to be installed, please provide me with one of the KB numbers of the updates.

Thanks.

Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2013 (KB3101499) 64-Bit Edition is one of the updates that keeps failing with code 80070663.

Thanks for all your help!

Are you really using the 64-bit version of Office? If so please go ahead and manually download the file and try to install from the manually downloaded one.

If it fails again, please provide me the following log. You will likely have to copy this to your desktop and then zip/attach.
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Odd I don't even have Office installed, just Visio 2013 stand-alone. Maybe I can ignore these updates?

Two.
Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2013 (KB3101499) 64-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Excel 2013 (KB3114354) 64-Bit Edition

Thanks. Please do the following.

Mini Toolbox
1. Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
2. Check only "List Installed Programs" and "List last 10 Event Viewer Errors".
3. Click the Go button.
4. Notepad will open with the log once it completes. Post the result (MTB.txt). A copy of MTB.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

OK, I've confirmed that you don't need those two updates. Likely a bug. We can either hide those two updates or we can try resolving why you are being prompted for them.

If you simply want to hide the updates, you can right-click on each of the updates and choose hide.
If you want to try to find out why you are being prompted for them I will need you to uninstall Visio (make sure you have your registration info).

Let me know. Thanks.
