- It turns out that (installing ??) .NET v4.00 throws Windows Update "off the rails" these days. I experienced that same "unwanted behaviour" myself. I thought that one needed to install .NET v4.00 before one was able to install a higher version (e.g. .NET v4.5x).
- But it turns out that when one installs e.g. .NET v4.52 then that will "kill/remove" lower .NET v4.xx versions. So, I would assume that it's safe to install updates for those higher versions. At least, I had no problems.
